Report: Red Sox working on three-way deal to acquire Victor Martinez

ESPN's Jayson Stark is reporting that the Red Sox are discussing a three-way deal with the Indians and some unknown third team that would send catcher/first baseman Victor Martinez to Boston, pitcher and ugliest player in history Clay Buchholz to Cleveland and a bunch of prospects all over the place. Recently acquired first baseman Adam LaRoche would be shipped out of Boston, probably to that mysterious third team, to make room for Martinez on the roster.

The Red Sox had been in hot pursuit of Roy Halladay and Adrian Gonzalez but apparently negotiations with the Blue Jays and Padres, respectively, didn't go very far.

Landing Martinez would be a major help for the Red Sox. It would allow them to rest Mike Lowell on occasion and move Kevin Youkilis to third base while playing Victor Martinez at first. V-Mart could also give Jason Varitek a few days off per week behind the plate since, let's face it, Varitek is a horrible offensive player.
