Reds acquire Scott Rolen from Jays, pending waiving of no-trade clause

The long rumored trade of Scott Rolen from Toronto to Cincinnati looks to be completed with the only step left being for Rolen to waive his no-trade clause. Jon Heyman, speaking on MLB Network, says Rolen will likely agree to the deal since he is from Indiana.

Rolen is having on of the best years of his career offensively. Though the Reds are 9.5 games out of first place in the NL Central, Rolen is under contract for next season so this is more of a future trade than one for right now.

The Blue Jays will receive third baseman Edwin Encarnacion and pitchers Josh Roenicke and Zach Stewart in the deal.

Update, 4:25pm: Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi says that Scott Rolen has approved the trade and that Rolen even asked for the trade for "personal reasons," according to MLB.com's Jordan Bastian.
