Marlins get Nick Johnson in last minute deal with Nationals

The Marlins have pulled off the trade for Nick Johnson just before the buzzer went off on the 4pm trading deadline. The Nationals will pay the remaining $1.8 million on Johnson's salary and receive Double A lefty Aaron Thompson in return, according to FOX Sports.com.

The deal looked imminent this morning and then cooled off in the afternoon, with executives saying at 3:30 that Johnson wasn't going anywhere. The deal got done, though, and Johnson will provide some offense and play a Gold Glove first base for the remainder of the year for Florida. He is a free agent at the end of the season.
