Gary Sheffield will sign with New York Mets

SI.com is reporting that Gary Sheffield will sign a one-year deal with the New York Mets for a pro-rated portion of the $400,000 league minimum.

Not to pat myself on the back at all (actually, that's exactly what I'm doing) but I suggested that the Mets would be a logical fit for Sheff in a post I wrote on Tuesday. The Mets, after all, needed some right-handed pop in the lineup.

Gary Sheffield cited playing time as one of his reasons for choosing the Mets over the Philles and Reds, who were also interested, which would make one believe Sheff will not simply be used against lefties, even though the SI article claims he will be used mostly as a right-handed pinch hitter.
