One of the last big names on the free agent market is no longer available. Shortstop Orlando Cabrera signed a one-year, $4 million deal with the Oakland A's, boosting an already improved offense that added Jason Giambi and Matt Holliday during this offseason.
The deal will push incumbent Bobby Crosby to the bench or off the team completely if the A's decide to trade him.
Cabrera, 34, helped lead the Red Sox to a World Series title in 2004 and received 15 MVP votes in 2007 with the Angels. Last year he played with the Chicago White Sox.
