signing former Dallas Cowboy Chris Canty to a six-year, $42 million contract with $17.25 million guaranteed.
The signing gives the Giants a lot of depth up front - Canty and Bernard join Fred Robbins and Barry Cofield at defensive tackle - and could mean a backup role for the soon-to-be-32-year-old Robbins, or perhaps he could be cut.
New York general manager Jerry Reese can now turn his attention to the offense. There are still questions surrounding Plaxico Burress, who could be in jail when the 2009 season starts. TJ Houshmandzadeh could be an option, but it seems likely he'll end up with either the Vikings or Seahawks before even visiting the Giants.
Could "Big Blue" be looking at packaging a few picks together to move up in the draft?
Perhaps, but that could just be wishful thinking on my part.
