Bobby Abreu joins Angels in the crowded outfield

The Anaheim Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Bobby Abreu have agreed to a one-year, $5 million contract, plus incentives, according to The Sporting News. Abreu joins Vlad Guerrero, Juan Rivera, Torii Hunter and Gary Matthews, Jr. in the outfield, although manager Mike Scioscia will have the luxury of rotating them all through the DH spot.

The contract is a major paycut for Abreu, who made $16 million with the Yankees last season and was looking for a 3-year, $48 million contract this offseason. But alas, he is a victim of the economic downturn, just as Jason Giambi and everyone who hasn't signed with the Yankees has seen.
