Peyton pulls in third NFL MVP award

Peyton Manning has been named the 2008 NFL MVP by a panel of 50 sports writers and broadcasters that cover the league. Manning joins everybody's favorite, Brett Favre, as the only three-time winners of the prestigious award. It was a landslide victory for Peyton, who received 32 votes. The next closest players were Chad Pennington and Michael Turner, who each got four votes.

Manning missed all of the preseason after having knee surgeries and the Colts got off to a 3-4 start. Since then, they've won nine straight behind Peyton's arm in an offense that didn't have much of a consistent running game. Joseph Addai had injury troubles of his own, leaving Dominic Rhodes to carry much of the load. Addai still hasn't returned to his usual form.

All of that meant is was on Peyton Manning to somehow get the Colts into the playoffs. And that's exactly what he did.
