Volquez finishes 4th in NL ROY voting, even though he's not a rookie

The headline pretty much says it all.

Three writers - out of the 32 who have votes for NL Rookie of the Year - gave votes to Reds pitcher Edinson Volquez. He had a pretty solid year and is definitely deserving of some votes. But then again, he pitched for Texas in 2005, 2006 and 2007, and tallied 80 innings. That's 30 more innings than the cutoff for rookies.

The current voting process offers no ballot. The writers, who cover baseball daily, are supposed to know who is a rookie and who isn't. Seems reasonable, right? I mean, these guys are the ones who pick the award winner, so you would think they would have a pretty strong grasp on it all.

I put more thought into an average blog post than these guys do in voting for ROY, apparently.
