Je'Rod Cherry to raffle off Super Bowl XXXVI ring for charity

You hear a lot of stories about former athletes selling championship rings to make a little extra cash. Je'Rod Cherry is giving up his New England Patriots Super Bowl ring for a much different reason.

The ring will be a raffle prize to raise money for charities dedicated to children, primarily ones affected by slave trade in parts of Africa and Asia. Cherry chose a raffle over an auction so that even everyday fans have a chance to get the prize, not just wealthy sports memorabilia enthusiasts.

Tickets can be purchased at NetRaffle.org for $2 a piece, with a minimum of five tickets required. The grand prize winner gets the ring and "Celebrities For Charities" will also pay for the taxes incurred from winning the ring.
