forgo surgery to repair two torn ligaments in his knee so that he can play this year with the Bolts. It seems like he's trying to be a warrior about the whole thing and help his team and all of that "rah rah" stuff, but this just seems crazy to me.
I spoke to TONY BLOGS Medical Expert, Dr. Ezekiel Coleslaw, about this earlier and he said that he saw a report that said that Merriman could potentially blow out his entire knee. There is no brace that can support the knee enough, and a serious injury could happen. Doc 'Slaw agrees, adding that though the knee injury right now is not career threatening, it could end his career if he tries to play through it.
I think Merriman should have surgery, sit out this season, and come back strong next year to help the Chargers. Instead he will play, presumably at less than 100%, and potentially injure himself worse, so that he can not help the Bolts down the line, and also might have severe, permanent knee damage.
