Yanks get Pudge from Detroit for Farnsworth

One colleague/Yankee-hater told me today, "Anyone who wants to dump salary looks to the Yankees." But before you jump on that bandwagon, realize that both Kyle Farnsworth and Ivan Rodriguez are in the last year of their respective contracts. And when you look at it, it's a trade that improves both teams, with the Yanks probably getting a slight upper-hand.

Pudge is hitting .295 and has a cannon for an arm, while Farnsworth has actually been pretty good for the Yankees this year. New York upgrades both offensively and defensively, while the Tigers get a late-inning reliever and also solve their conundrum of trying to platoon Pudge with Brandon Inge behind the plate.

I-Rod will now reunite with A-Rod, having played together with Texas, and Farnsworth returns to Detroit, where he is most famous for tackling Jeremy Affeldt.

The Yankees, meanwhile, seem to be trying to compile all of the HGH/steroid names they can get, adding Pudge to Andy Pettitte and Jason Giambi.
