Former Yankees outfielder and broadcaster Bobby Murcer has passed away at the age of 62 after an almost two-year battle with cancer. Murcer also played for the Giants and Cubs, compiling a career average of .277 with 252 home runs. He was a Yankees broadcaster for 23 years.
One of the more memorable performances of Murcer's career came the day of Thurman Munson's burial, when he homered and then drove in the winning run of the game. Murcer, along with Lou Piniella, delivered a eulogy at Munson's funeral. Bobby gave the bat he used in that game to Munson's wife, Diane.
Newsday has compiled a photo gallery of Murcer "through the years," and the YES Network will be paying tribute to him tonight with a lineup of programming.
